Terry Pratchett, The Guy is a writing god.
Discovered him last May, spent the last year amassing all his stuff. Now reading Thief Of Time AGAIN, Just Finished City Watch which I think is the best to date.
Everything is good but I recommend any of the "Death" or Samuel Vimes books as the funniest reads.
Maurice and His Amazing Rodents for younger readers (If you want to intoduce your kids to fantasy books with a story you can read to them and enjoy)
He doesn't write fast enough coz we've bought all his books, made him rich and now he doesn't have to write as fast....
Tom Holt also rocks
Tolkien: Anything and everything (Even old shopping lists)
Anything else serious or "real" I can't get on with. I read to get away from real life, These three guys I have found fulfill that desire best.

Hell, I don't know if the gameshop that I knew of when I was growing up is still there...and it's kinda this weird thing I have where I'd rather jump into the start of a campaign with friends who are after the same gola to start with and are available when we need to be available...I'd hate to go and jump into someone else's system and be dependant on THEIR schedule...you know? Besides, everyone seems to play so many different things...I just want a simple AD&D game...I don't even know how those work anymore...I'm so ouot of touch...

Dan--Oddly enough, the only other detective/mystery fiction I've read has been a few issues of "Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine" and "Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine". The Spillane stuff I'm reading now...the chapters aren't very long and the story moves along at a good pace. If Mike Hammer caves in someone's nose, he doesn't get poetic about it.
Eris--Charles Bukowski, and he's not putting out fast enough 'cause he's dead. But ten books of posthumous writings have been released, so he's not doing too bad.

You probably mean Games Plus in Mt. Prospect. That's the town I grew up in and the shop I was referring to above...

Come on, Jax, try it... it's fun, it's relaxing, you get to meet new people...
Back on books, I'd have to say that the weirdest thing I've read recently was the novelization of Johnny Mneumonic, written by Terry Bison... the screenplay was written by Gibson, as was the story that the movie was based on... Good reading, but man, having Bison channeling Gibson is just a weird experience...

Crazy, Thanks, one of these day's I'll pick some up. If you like Spillane, you might want to try Raymond Chandler or Ross Macdonald (wrote in the '30s-60's) or current authors Loren Estellman (writes modern Detroit based detective stories, a Historical fiction/Crime series on Detroit, and Westerns ) or Robert Parker (the "Spenser For Hire" TV show was based off his books)
Jax, Our friend Jay knows the people who run a shop in either DesPlaines or Mt Prospect. I can find out where if you are interested. The new d20 version of D&D seems to be pretty easy to pick up, and because of the way they are marketing it, there is d20 stuff available for pretty much any genre (D&D, Star Wars, Vampires, etc)

Just finished another Star Wars book set in the "New Jedi Order" series. Man, those are addictive fun.
